Asthma Aware Schools

By becoming an asthma aware school, you will be able to support pupils with asthma specifically, provide better support and lessen the impact on the education of these children and young people.

Schools across Lincolnshire can complete a self-assessment checklist to support them being an asthma aware school.

Pathway to becoming an Asthma Aware School

To be an Asthma Aware School, schools must have met the following standards;

  1. Have a school Asthma Champion who are delegated responsibility by the head teacher and school governors/ trustees to co-ordinate asthma principles in school.
  2. Have an up to date Medical/Asthma Policy
  3. Have an Asthma Register for all children and young people who have an asthma diagnosis, this should be reviewed and updated regularly
  4. Have an Emergency Inhaler Kit which includes a compatible spacer.
  5. Personalised Asthma Action Plans should be requested from parents/carers for each child with asthma.
  6. Record and Share information with parents/carers about the child’s asthma whilst in school.
  7. Training- 85 % of staff and all PE staff will have completed Tier 1 asthma e-learning.

Accredited schools in Lincolnshire

Up until May 2026 schools were able to gain asthma friendly school accreditation. The Asthma Friendly School accreditation status was based on the self-assessment being carried out by the school and being reviewed by Lincolnshire ICB.

  • Tower Road Academy, Boston
  • Staniland Academy, Boston
  • St Peter at Gowts CofE Primary School, Lincoln
  • Wrangle Primary Academy, Boston
  • Grimoldby Primary School, Louth
  • Manor Farm Academy, North Hykeham, Lincoln
  • St. George’s Church of England Primary School, Stamford

St Peter at Gowts CofE Primary School, Lincoln, is the second school to be awarded ‘Asthma Friendly School’ accreditation in Lincolnshire.
