Local voices help in shaping Lincolnshire’s weight management services
What we set out to achieve
We wanted to make sure that the voices of local people were at the heart of designing Lincolnshire’s Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service.
Tier 3 weight management offers specialist support, bringing together doctors, dietitians, and lifestyle experts to help people achieve safe, lasting weight loss when other approaches haven’t worked.
Our aim was to understand people’s experiences, needs, and expectations so that future services are shaped around what really matters to them.
What we did
Between March and April 2025, we ran a county-wide survey to gather views on Lincolnshire’s Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service. Over 200 people responded, sharing their experiences, awareness of services, what support they would value most, and the barriers they face.
We also invited people to join a patient engagement group, giving them the chance to be directly involved in shaping the future of the service. This group will play a key role in the co-production of Phase 2, ensuring services are designed alongside the people who use them.
Here’s how we reached people:
- 10,000+ stakeholders received the survey via our Engagement Bulletin.
- Facebook posts reached 13,323 people, generating 177 clicks to the survey.
- A dedicated webpage, with traffic driven by social media, direct searches, and partner referrals.
- We worked with community groups, healthcare professionals & voluntary organisations to help share our engagement survey.
What you told us
Through the survey, people across Lincolnshire shared their honest views about weight management services:-
- Many people didn’t know about Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Services or had never accessed them.
- The biggest barriers to getting support were distance and cost.
- People said psychological support and access to medication would make the biggest difference in achieving their goals.
- The main motivators for using the service were wanting to feel healthier and take responsibility for their wellbeing.
- Over half of respondents said they would definitely like support to lose weight, and a third said they would use weight loss medications or injections.
The difference it’s made

What’s next?
The co-production group will continue to meet to monitor and support the implementation of phase 2, which will involve helping to shape the Localising of a community-based Tier 3 Weight Management Service in Lincolnshire.
