NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is supporting Know Your Numbers! Week 2025 (8–14 September) – the UK’s biggest blood pressure awareness campaign – by encouraging everyone across the county to check their blood pressure.
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it rarely has symptoms but significantly increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and dementia. It is estimated that one in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure, and around 5 million people are living with it undiagnosed.
Why it matters
Dr Sunil Hindocha, Medical Director at NHS Lincolnshire ICB, said:
“Knowing your blood pressure could save your life. A quick, simple check is all it takes – and it can help you make small changes to protect your heart and health for years to come. We’re urging everyone in Lincolnshire to take a moment during Know Your Numbers! Week to find out their numbers and encourage friends and family to do the same.”
How to check your blood pressure
- At home: If you have a blood pressure monitor, take your reading and keep a note of the results.
- At your GP practice or pharmacy: Many local GP practices and community pharmacies offer free checks.
- Through NHS Health Checks: If you’re aged 40–74 and eligible, you may be invited to a free NHS Health Check which includes a blood pressure measurement.
Take action this September
During Know Your Numbers! Week, NHS Lincolnshire ICB is encouraging everyone to:
- Check your blood pressure – whether at home, at your GP practice, or local pharmacy.
- Encourage loved ones to do the same – especially those who may not realise they are at risk.
- Make healthy changes – such as reducing salt intake, eating more fruit and vegetables, being active, and cutting back on alcohol.
Your health, your numbers
“Blood pressure is just as important to know as your weight or height. By checking it regularly, you can spot problems early and take simple steps to reduce your risk. Together we can protect the health of our communities in Lincolnshire,” added Dr Hindocha.
