Prevention: What are we doing in Lincolnshire?

Many health conditions can be prevented or better managed by making positive lifestyle choices. Quitting smoking, cutting down on alcohol, eating a balanced diet, and staying physically active can all have a significant impact on your wellbeing.

Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is offering a range of activities and support groups designed to help people identify health issues early and take proactive steps to improve their health.

In partnership with Lincolnshire County Council and the Integrated Lifestyle Service (ILS), the ICB is working to address the root causes of poor health and ensure fair access to support for everyone across the county.

We understand that everyone’s needs are different. That’s why our services are tailored to support those most at risk—providing the right help, at the right time, in the right way.

A range of programmes are available, including:

  • Tobacco Dependency Services

The NHS Tobacco Dependency Service helps support patients who are dependent on tobacco when they enter hospital to abstain or quit people stop smoking by offering support, advice, and treatment.

    It is available to:

Each service includes Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) such as Gum, Patches, and in some cases Vapes, alongside behavioural support for up to 12 weeks (and in some cases beyond), to manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

The services are part of a system-wide plan to reduce smoking-related illnesses and support a smoke-free future.

  • Weight Management / Diabetes Prevention Services

NHS weight management services help people reach and maintain a healthy weight. They offer support through healthy eating advice, physical activity plans, and lifestyle coaching. Some services are in-person, while others are available online.

These services are delivered by trained professionals and aim to support individuals in making sustainable lifestyle changes that enhance overall health and well-being. The focus is on creating a positive, supportive environment that empowers people to achieve and maintain a healthier weight.

    Programmes include:

Specialist support and Bariatric services are currently provided by University Hospital of Derby and Burton (UHDB). Patients under this service do not access weight loss injectables but are offered a 12-month personalised plan and wrap around care.

    Weight Loss Injectables: Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

Lincolnshire ICB has designed an interim service to deliver tirzepatide prescribing and support locally from June 2025; with a full service (long-term solution) expected to launch in April – June 2026.

Access to the medication will be prioritised to ensure patients with the greatest clinical need can access it.

Those who are eligible will be contacted by their GP and invited to an initial appointment to identify suitability and discuss next steps.

Commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council and delivered locally through GP practices across the county, The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as:

    • heart disease
    • diabetes
    • kidney disease
    • stroke

During the check-up you'll discuss how to reduce your risk of these conditions.

If you are aged 40 to 74 and do not have a pre-existing health condition you should be invited to an NHS Health Check by your GP or local council every 5 years.
