World Contraception Day

Woman with different types of contraception being held around her

World Contraception Day takes place on September 26th every year. The annual worldwide campaign centres around a vision where every pregnancy is wanted. The day’s mission is to improve awareness of all contraception methods and to enable young people to make informed choices on their sexual and reproductive health.

There are several methods of contraception such as:

  • Combined pill. Contains hormones progestogen and oestrogen.
  • Progestogen-only pill.
  • IUD (intrauterine device, or copper coil)
  • IUS (intrauterine system or hormonal coil)
  • Contraceptive implant.
  • Contraceptive injection.
  • Contraceptive patch.
  • Vaginal ring.

In Lincolnshire, you can discuss your contraception needs with the following health care providers.

Some community pharmacies in Lincolnshire offers the ORAL contraceptive pill without a prescription. Use the NHS Post code search tool to find a local pharmacy near you offering free oral contraception pill. In addition, some community pharmacies offer the Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC).
