Share your views on Pain Management Services in Lincolnshire

The pain management service helps people with long-term pain by offering support that addresses both physical and emotional aspects in their community.

Patients are usually referred by their GP after experiencing ongoing pain that hasn’t been resolved.

The services are provided by community pain teams including pain consultants, specialist physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, nurse specialists, occupational therapists, CBT therapists, GP’s and pharmacists. They all specialise in persistent/chronic pain and work closely as a team to support people living with pain.

When someone gets referred to the service, a member of the pain team will carry out an assessment with them. This may be over the telephone, by video or face-to-face. Occasionally, it might involve a physical examination or the person might be asked to fill in some questionnaires. Towards the end of the assessment, the clinician will agree a plan with them.

Occasionally, it might be better if someone is seen in a different service. If this is the case, the patient will be referred onto the appropriate care – either directly, of through their GP.

The focus of the pain management service is to help patients find ways to manage their pain. The service also aims to help people lead a better quality of life. It also focuses on supporting people to start doing more of what matters to them without making the pain worse and to manage flare-ups. Patients are also offered support to help them manage the emotional impact of living with pain. The services include pain management programmes, medication reviews and evidence-based interventions, when appropriate.
