Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
A child or young person has special educational needs and disabilities if they have a learning difficulty and/or a disability that means they need special health and education support, we shorten this to SEND.
The SEND Code of Practice 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014 gives guidance to health and social care, education and local authorities to make sure that children and young people with SEND are properly supported.
Our vision
In the ICB, our vision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is that they are supported, feel safe physically and emotionally, are included and accepted within their community and lead happy and fulfilled lives. We continue to be proud to place the individual care needs of children and young people at the very heart of what we do.
Our Local Offer
Lincolnshire’s Local Offer includes services and events for children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and their families. What are we doing?
- Working with the local authority to develop a directory of services available online and designed to support CYP, families and professionals navigate the SEND landscape.
- Commissioning services jointly for Children and Young People (up to age 25) with SEND, including those with Education Health and Care Plans.
- Putting mechanisms in place to ensure practitioners and clinicians will support the integrated needs assessment and tribunal process.
- Continued Development of Clinicians SEND Education Programme.
- Developing an online Sensory, Processing Difficulties Programme and with additional additional workshops on Demand Avoidance and Neurodiversity and Burnout. Events and workshops can be found at Training :: Lincolnshire Children’s Therapy Services.
What is Sensory Processing?
We all receive and process sensory information continuously throughout the day. For most people this is not a problem but for some children this can cause difficulties with behaviour and concentration, as well as carrying out everyday activities.
You can find out more at Sensory processing difficulties :: Lincolnshire Children’s Therapy Services or watch this introductory video here:
