With the launch of the covid-19 spring vaccination (booster) programme underway as of this week, the county’s vaccination centres have been reporting brisk business.
Available to anyone aged 75 and over, plus people aged five and over who have a weakened immune system, the covid-19 spring vaccination provides an important top up in protection for those who need it most against serious illness or hospitalisation as a result of covid-19.
“We have been pleased with the number of people coming through the doors since we started offering the spring vaccination on Monday, at our vaccination centres in Wainfleet and Lincoln,” comments Karen Hewinson, Head of Clinical Services, Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.
“I am particularly pleased that, along with the continuing use of our vaccination centre at the Weighing Rooms (Grandstand) in Lincoln, we’ve had a busy first few days at our new vaccination centre in Wainfleet, at the Wainfleet Medical Practice. It’s gratifying to see people are still prepared to come forwards and get their vaccination.”
The team operating out of the brand new vaccination centre at the Wainfleet Medical Practice have been working hard over the last few weeks to get it ready.
“They have done a brilliant job to get us to a point where we can welcome the public in,” adds Karen. “Aside from the important task of giving people their covid-19 spring vaccinations, the team are working diligently to manage the running of the site, including things like overseeing the very limited car parking outside.
“We are reserving the limited spaces outside for disabled people but have stewards on hand to help direct you to other parking locally including in the Market Place car park. If you are coming to see us either at Wainfleet or in Lincoln, please do not arrive more than ten minutes early and please be courteous to others, particularly local residents.”
As with previous rounds of the covid-19 vaccination programme, people who are eligible for the covid-19 spring vaccination can book an appointment, either online using the National Booking Service or by calling 119. Alternatively, you can wait to be contacted by your GP practice.
With good appointment availability at both the Wainfleet Vaccination Centre and at the Weighing Rooms Vaccination Centre, eligible people are being encouraged to come forwards sooner rather than later and to remember that the covid-19 spring vaccination will only be available until 30th June 2023.
“This is a time-limited offer to get your covid-19 spring vaccination and to be able to top up your protection. The same cut off date of 30th June 2023 also applies to primary 1st and 2nd doses, so if you’ve not had these yet please ensure you book online or by calling 119 before 30th June,” notes Karen.
“We are also offering walk-in covid-19 spring vaccinations at the Weighing Rooms Vaccination Centre, Lincoln, which don’t need an appointment, every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am – 3pm. We’re not yet offering walk-ins at Wainfleet, but please keep an eye on our website for updates.”
