The e-learning training project is jointly funded by NHSE and Lincolnshire County Council – aims to improve communication between professionals and Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This exciting resource will be available to all professionals working in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) services by Spring 22 following our launch event.
Chairs of Lincolnshire Young Voices, Emma Cross and Jo Tolley, were keen to showcase how their volunteer committee have responded to 98.3% of GPs who have said they want more SEND training. Using their knowledge as experts by experience, the LYV Group recognised that communication is a key skill for everyone. Therefore, they have devised and embedded a communication model that will boost professionals’ confidence when they meet with individuals with disabilities, and this is called ‘This is ME!’
The presentation was greatly received and is now being supported to be delivered nationally via the SEND National Forum. Due to the impression Lincolnshire Young Voices made, they have also been asked to support other areas around the country in developing similar resources and participation groups around the country. These platforms will help the group inspire change for other Young People and enable them to continue to give professionals the tools to improve their communication!

Lincolnshire Young Voices was set up to inspire change and ‘A Rough Guide’, couple with ‘This Is Me’ certainly has the power to do communicate this to professionals on a national basis. Our committee are looking forward to the launch event and we are excited to help develop other Young People’s participation groups.”
