Huge congratulations to Emily Richardson, 11, from Ellison Boulters CofE Academy in Scothern, who won herself and her class a prize visit to South Park and the County Emergency Centre in Lincoln on Tuesday 18 July.
Earlier in the year NHS Lincolnshire ran a competition for all primary school children in the County. Students were asked to design a Birthday Card to help celebrate the NHS 75th anniversary and Emily was the chosen winner by the four Chief Executives for NHS organisations across Lincolnshire.
South Park, which is home to Fire and Rescue, Ambulance and Police, gave the children the exciting opportunity to go inside and learn about the vehicles, watch live training exercises and gripping live demonstrations.
Jordan Papworth, Watch Manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue assisted the visit. He said: “It’s always great to show young people what it takes to work in the emergency services. We hope the whole class had fun, learnt a lot, and maybe we’ve inspired some future firefighters too!”
After the children’s time with the LFR team, they then went on to visit the County Emergency Centre. This is where they learnt and partook in games about being prepared for emergencies.
The students were then lucky enough to watch live drone footage above the site, whilst learning how drones can play a vital part in a crisis. The drone was able to locate the children and take photographs from the sky.
Laura Edlington, Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer and Lee Duke, Project & Training Officer for Lincolnshire County Council planned the Emergency Centre visit. They said: “It was amazing to see how enthusiastic the class were about getting involved with the activities. We really hope they enjoyed their time with us, and that they took some learning home about planning for emergencies.”
Ross Noble, Lead EPRR Officer for NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board attended the visit. He said: “It was lovely to see the children enjoy their time at the centre. It’s always great for the younger generation to understand what goes on in the county to keep our people safe.
“I’d like to thank Ellison Boulters CofE Academy for attending and being so enthusiastic and a big thank you to the team at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and the County Emergency Centre for facilitating the visit.”
A huge well done and thank you to all teachers and students who took part in the competition across the County. All the cards were shared to all staff across Lincolnshire NHS.
