World Cancer Day – Meet our Macmillan Living with Cancer Programme Team

This World Cancer Day (4th February), we want to put the spotlight on our Macmillan Living with Cancer Programme Team and the fantastic work they do to help improve the quality of life for people living with cancer in Lincolnshire.

We want to make sure that people living with cancer in Lincolnshire are supported at the right time, in the right place, by the right people and in the right way for them. We know that we’ve got amazing services in place but that sometimes pathways aren’t joined up, and people don’t know what’s out there. Our fantastic team is working with our partners right across the system, and people living with cancer to change this, and we’re working towards making this a lasting change.

Many people living with cancer feel lost and isolated in the community. They have fears and worries, some practical and others emotional and psychological. We signpost these individuals to support, helping them through these issues, whether it is a difficulty with getting transport to appointments and diagnostics, family/relationship issues or any other holistic need. This signposting makes a difference to how people are coping and ultimately to their quality of life, this is the best part of my role.

Macmillan Living with Cancer Programme Manager, Kathie McPeake, said the award was a wonderful recognition of how health and care professionals across the county had worked tirelessly as one to innovate and cross boundaries.

“Those living with cancer or beyond are at the very heart of everything we have done and continue to do,”.
