Lincolnshire NHS and Macmillan have joined forces with Anglian Water in a bid to raise awareness of the support available to anyone living with, or caring for someone, with cancer or a long-term illness.
As the cost of living continues to rise, Anglian Water is reaching out to Lincolnshire residents who are struggling with illness and having practical or financial difficulties relating to their water supply.
Previous research by Macmillan found that four in five people with cancer experience a financial impact, which for those affected reaches almost £900 a month on average to their usual outgoings.*
For those finding it difficult to pay, Anglian Water offer discounted tariffs; assistance schemes and temporary payments plans. Free, practical support from their Priority Services Register includes help if the water goes off; Knock and Wait – which gives people longer to get to the door; the option to communicate with Anglian Water staff in a preferred language and help to nominate someone to manage an account.
Anna Chapman, Community Cancer Care Coordinator for the Macmillan Living with Cancer Programme, said any extra support for anyone living with cancer or a long-term illness is welcome.
“We know that most people are feeling the strain financially right now, but it can be even more difficult and stressful for someone who has a long term or serious illness, such as cancer. We know from research* that 83 per cent of people with cancer in the UK experience some kind of financial impact. Research also showed that at its worst, that financial impact can be as much as £891 a month for loss of income and increased costs.
It’s critical that people know what support is available to them – and know that they do not have to sit in silence and worry.”
Anglian Water is encouraging anyone who is struggling due to illness to find out more or get in touch as soon as possible:
