Accessing NHS services during the bank holiday

With the summer bank holiday approaching on Monday 28th August 2023. Please find information below about how you can access NHS services over the bank holiday.

Accessing general practice services

GP practice services will largely be closed on Monday. If you need medical advice, please contact NHS 111 through their online service – 111.nhs.uk. NHS 111 will be able to assess you and, if you should need it, book you an out of hours GP appointment or direct you to an appropriate service. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Accessing pharmacy services

Pharmacists can help with common ailments should you need them. They are highly qualified health professionals who can give free, confidential advice and help you get the right medications for everyday illnesses. Some community pharmacies will be open on the bank holiday . Please check the on the NHS website for local pharmacy opening times in Lincolnshire. Community pharmacy opening hours on the weekends preceding the bank holiday Monday will be the same as for any normal weekend.

Prescriptions

To avoid delays in getting your medicines over the bank holiday, please order any repeat prescriptions you require in good time. Remember, you can order repeat prescriptions through the NHS App or at your GP practice.

Accessing dental services

If you need urgent dental treatment over the bank holiday, contact your usual dentist. If you cannot contact your dentist, use NHS 111 online for information about your local out of hours service.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be accessed online or by phone. If you are unsure which service you need, or want to speak to a trained expert, then contact NHS 111 on bank holiday Monday, online at 111.nhs.uk or by calling 111.

Urgent Treatment Centres

You can visit your local Urgent Treatment Centre for sprains, fractures, minor burns and skin infections. Walk-in or bookable appointments available via NHS 111.

The NHS across Lincolnshire has introduced a smartphone app, which is designed to help people choose the least pressured urgent and emergency care services and to understand waiting times better.

The WaitLess app combines current waiting time, queue numbers and travel-time at urgent care facilities in the county.  This displayed information helps people make an informed decision about where to seek the fastest treatment for minor illness and injuries. Along with this, the app displays all available pharmacies in the area as an alternative treatment option.

The WaitLess app is free to download from The App Store and Google Play; simply search for WaitLess.
