NHS England has teamed up with parkrun UK to encourage staff and communities to ‘parkrun for the NHS’ as part of its 75th birthday.
Anyone can get involved with people invited to walk, jog or run 5k to celebrate this major milestone in the NHS’s history and acknowledge all the staff and volunteers, past and present, who have made the NHS what it is.
In Lincolnshire this is on Saturday, 8 July, at Yarborough Leisure Centre and Witham Way Country Park in Boston, with the parkruns starting at 9am. People attending are asked to wear blue for the NHS.
Angela Shimada, Deputy Director of AHPs and Clinical Transformation at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, who is attending one of the events said: “Not only is this a great way to thank NHS staff and volunteers for its 75th Birthday, but we also hope that ‘parkrun for the NHS’ will help encourage the people of Lincolnshire to consider being more active, as we know physical activity is great for your well-being.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there dressed in blue and excited to be running the 5k course myself.”
parkruns are free but participants should register before the event if they haven’t done a parkrun, and take their barcode to scan at the finish.
Lincolnshire NHS is providing staff to help with the parkrun and stalls with information for participants.
Kate Trollone, Event Director at Yarborough Leisure Centre parkrun said: “We love to get involved with special occasions and encourage our parkrun community to join in.
“We are thrilled to team up with NHS Lincolnshire and show our gratitude for all the NHS has done for us.
“parkrun is about our community coming together to walk, run or volunteer and have fun at these free and friendly events.”
Nicola Housam is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Dermatology at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust and the Event Director at the Witham Way Country Park parkrun. She said: “This event is bringing together my two passions. My work with the NHS and also parkrun. It is going to be a brilliant morning with an amazing atmosphere.
“There will be a warm welcome for NHS colleagues who might like to join us for the run, as well as those from our local community.”
