Final opportunity to get covid-19 spring vaccinations

With just over a week to go until the end of the current round of covid-19 vaccinations, people who still want to have their covid-19 spring vaccination are being urged to come forwards sooner rather than later.

The covid-19 spring vaccination will close on Friday 30th June, bringing to an end the latest round of the vaccination programme in Lincolnshire and across the country, and local vaccination teams are keen to see anyone eligible who’s yet to have their spring vaccination.

“As with previous rounds of the vaccination programme, we’ve been heartened by the response from Lincolnshire people to the covid-19 spring vaccination, with around three quarters of eligible people aged 75 or over having had their latest vaccination,” comments Karen Hewinson, Head of Clinical Services, Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.

“If you’re eligible – you are 75 years old or over (you need to have turned 75 by 30th June 2023), or you are aged five years or older and have a weakened immune system – there’s still time to come forwards, so please either make an appointment or come to one of our walk-in vaccination sessions, which don’t require an appointment and are available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, by the end of June.”

People with a weakened immune system include those who had or have a blood cancer, an organ, bone marrow or stem cell transplant, HIV infection, a genetic disorder, certain medicines that increase your risk of infection, or a long-term immunosuppressive treatment for conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease, although this list is not exhaustive.

“For people aged five or older with a weakened immune system, it is particularly important to come forward for a covid-19 spring vaccination if you’ve not already done so, because weakened immune systems tend to not create such a strong response to vaccines, plus any response may not be quite so sustained,” adds Karen.

The Wainfleet Vaccination Centre is holding both bookable and walk-in vaccination sessions next week (w/c 26th June, walk-ins don’t need to be booked), see more information.  There are also various pop-up walk-in vaccination sessions being held around the county this week and next, details on our Grab a jab page.

You can book online using the National Booking Service or by calling 119.  Alternatively, GP practices are continuing to contact eligible people to call them forwards between now and 30th June.
