It’s never too late to quit and feel the benefits of better health – that’s our message to smokers ahead of No Smoking Day on 8th March. Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your physical and mental health and wellbeing for you and your family. With this in mind, the NHS in Lincolnshire has launched new Tobacco Dependency Services, with more coming soon!

Pregnant women and mental health inpatients can now benefit from NHS Tobacco Dependency Services. This support was launched in January 2023, and work is in development to extend the services to all acute hospital inpatients and high-risk mental health outpatients very soon!

As part of the services, our specialist Tobacco Dependency Advisors (TDAs) will:

  • provide personalised treatment plans to support you
  • meet with you regularly to discuss progress
  • provide behavioural support
  • provide free stop smoking aid; including Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) such as nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, and inhalators.

The services also support NHS smoke-free policies.

All pregnant women will have access to services for the treatment of tobacco dependency as part of their routine care. This will include:

  • carbon monoxide reading at every contact
  • smoking status recorded
  • ongoing support and advice throughout your pregnancy.

All acute hospital inpatients, mental health inpatients and high-risk outpatients who are identified as smokers will be offered:

  • carbon monoxide reading at every contact
  • smoking status recorded
  • onward referral for support from One You Lincolnshire upon discharge from NHS services.
